Description
Three Sketches for Wind Quintet contains three short movements which are connected in a traditional fast-slow-fast sequence.
Duration approximately 12 minutes.
For Wind Quintet: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet in A, Horn in F, and Bassoon
Three Sketches for Wind Quintet was written in 2013. Its three short movements are connected in a traditional fast-slow-fast sequence. The first, ”Rowed Race,” is indeed constructed on a twelve-tone row and proceeds in race-like fashion to ever-mounting tension. The wheels finally come off on a unison B-flat, which leads directly into the calmer, more song-like and tonal pathways of the “Reverie.” When this dream-like detour comes to its end, a sustained unison, once again, finds another B-flat to launch the “Romp” as it dashes for home, recalling materials from the first two sketches along the way. The whole trip takes just shy of 12 minutes. Dedicated to the Camas Wind Quintet of Pacific Lutheran University, the work was premiered there by Camas on February 25, 2014.
