Sailors would set off into the unknown unsure if they would ever return to their homeland and loved ones alive.
"Uncharted Seas" tells the story of those who sought unexplored waters in hopes of expanding their horizons; much like in Homer’s Tale, The Odyssey, such expeditions sometimes lead to perilous situations - some more surreal than others. The piece begins with an exhilarating melody that depicts imagery of valiant explorers setting sail off into the distance. The piece expresses an extraordinary voyage beginning with a strong statement exclaimed through the woodwind and string sections, later joined by brass and percussion. The chorus finally comes to a halt as the woodwinds express unpredictable hardship with a new harmonic melody expressing that of the Sirens of The Odyssey, though the Sirens are fought by the strings and brass, bringing a victorious end to the forlorn ballot. As the melody grows stronger, the excitement of the journey builds. The sailor’s tale is told by a new exhilarating tune. The journey continues with new melodies being introduced, bringing fourth unseen despair to the sailors. Finally the familiar melody returns sparing hope to the sailors ending the tale with strong and powerful chords that resolve the once robust tune. Duration: 4:22 Written: 2017 |
