Cloud Chaser is a celebration of aspiration. It’s easy to be overly self critical, so I took the opportunity to indulge in my own favorite compositional tricks. The trumpet solo, grace notes, split-handed mallet poly-rhythms, and large stacked poly-chords are all favorite elements incorporated. The beginning of the piece - especially the trumpet solo - is representative of that goal. The themes of this section are littered throughout the rest of the piece, but a true reprise doesn’t come until the very end, albeit in a different context. Despite the initial goal, much more has been achieved along the way.
