This piece, E-flat Blues No. 2 was created for and performed by the “Thunderbirds,” a select group of musicians from the 45th Infantry Division Band of the 45th (Thunderbird) Infantry Division of the U.S. ARMY fighting in Korea.
This special group performed during “mini R and R” (short rest and recuperation from battle) periods for troops as well as “musical fillers” between USO show acts presented by USO Show groups. Their object was to present “a touch of home” for war weary troops and the momentary relief they could help provide from the terrors of war.
