Keith Dippre - De Tours
Description
This is a piece inspired by the 2018 hurricane Florence, which indeed created some very memorable detours in our community. The backstory of De-Tours is a curious one from the fall of 2018. While returning to Fayetteville, North Carolina from the north (as the storm had moved out of the area the night before), we quickly became aware that every road into the city was either blocked or flooded.
Movement I starts with a slow and amorphous beckoning of a musical fairy tale. Later, a vigorous samba rhythm pushes De-Tours into a more familiar dance interplay with occasional hints of jazz.
Movement II is to be played in the style of a Brahms rhapsody and is rather pensive in nature. The piece becomes rather aggressive at midpoint, a kind of atonal tango, but then gently cycles back to the rhapsody to close.
