Tanner Walterman is a 16-year-old sophomore at Vista Ridge High School in Cedar Park, Texas. He is a part of the Vista Ridge High School band, playing clarinet in the Wind Ensemble. He first started his musical career with Margaret Perry at age 8 or 9, where he learned to play piano and started composing. Tanner has studied clarinet with Mary Schani since 6th grade, and he plans on continuing clarinet throughout high school and possibly college. Tanner began studying composition under Keith Allegretti at age 14, and has been taking lessons with him ever since. Back in June of 2018, Tanner Walterman’s orchestral work entitled Insidious was premiered by the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and then also performed by the Vista Ridge High School Wind Ensemble in December of that year. In early 2019, Tanner made it through the TMEA All-Region audition process, giving him the opportunity of performing in the TMEA Region 32 Wind Ensemble and the TMEA All-State Concert Band. Tanner plans on continuing composition and clarinet as a career, hoping to attend the University of Texas at Austin in the Fall of 2021. Outside of music, Tanner enjoys playing video games, mountain biking, hanging out with his friends, and spending time with his family. Tanner’s accomplishments could not have been possible without the incredible amount of support from Margaret Perry, Keith Allegretti, Mary Schani, all of his band directors, family, and friends.
