Having been composing for five years, David A Schuler has experienced the passionate love and connection towards music and the arts. David especially is drawn towards orchestral writing dating back to the post-classical era. Though, composition isn’t his only musical attraction as he has, and is currently learning, to play various instruments including piano, percussion, trumpet, clarinet, and most recently, violin.
David’s first major composition, Inferno, was performed by his school’s Honor Band. This piece influenced David to continue on composing, eventually inspiring him to begin writing full-orchestral pieces as he had always wanted. |
Aside from Inferno, he has had original compositions performed by his school’s Jazz Bands, he has written for various percussion and woodwind ensembles, he has been commissioned by fellow students for special projects, and he has arranged some of his favorite classical pieces into chamber ensembles that he was able to perform in, such as Marriage of Figaro and Swan Lake.
Although David’s favorite musical pursuit is composition, he also enjoys the performance aspect of the art. David plays snare drum in the Rouse High School Marching Band but has also partaken in many percussion ensembles, award-winning concert bands, chamber groups, and other community performance ensembles that have brought inspiration towards David’s compositions.
David was extremely grateful to have gotten the opportunity to work with the Austin Symphony in the past. His piece, Uncharted Seas, received fourth place in the 2018 Young Composers’ Contest.
David also founded and directed a school-based community band which united individuals to perform for one another.
Aside from music, David enjoys hiking with his friends all across central Texas, mountain biking and kayaking with his family, and swimming for sport.
David is proud to be a member of the award-winning percussion section that took first place in the PASIC International Ensemble Contest and is also grateful to be an award-winning composer for his piano concerto in a contest with the National PTSA.
David A Schuler is very honored to have worked with the Austin Symphony and hopes to one day become a professional composer, work with, and someday lead a world-class symphony orchestra.
